Hurricane Ike is a grouchy fellow...and he seems to have the worst timing- and the worst effects ever.
When looking & reading the news, it has been shown that hurricane-force winds from the storm were felt as far north as Kentucky, and heavy rains flooded streets in Chicago, Illinois. Deaths related to the storm were reported in Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio as well as Texas.
Gas prices have gone up significantly and some of the other artists have contacted us not sure if they can even afford traveling to the festival. Certain other guests have canceled. The economy was already in a different place when arrangements for this year's Masque & Veil were made. That alone we know has caused some significant planning adjustments.
Even as importantly, now that gas prices have changed due to Hurricane Ike, a lot of the regional festival attendees that the festival loves seeing in the region and who had planned to attend will not be there, which also affects the festival quite a bit. [Ike prompted many oil companies to shut down operations ahead of the storm. It could take up to two weeks to get some refineries operational again because it's not as simple as flipping a switch– CNN.com]
It is with a heavy heart that we are officially having to cancel this year's festival. LOOK FOR NEWS ON THE ALTERNATE SHOWS ON SEPT 25-27 AT GROUND XERO IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
All presales to this year's festival were refunded thru PayPal this past weekend.
Next year, barring any other acts of earthly disasters, look for Masque & Veil's return!
